IMPACT MONDAY – Meat the future: the rise of a plant-based food system

september 27, 2021
6:30 pm

Protein transitions, green deals, nitrogen issues: at this moment, there are numerous advances in the field of food, agriculture and the environment in Belgium. While all of this may seem relatively new, it is actually part of a global evolution that has been rapidly gaining speed over the last few years. In this talk, Ashoka fellow, Tobias Leenaert will give a brief overview of society’s need to evolve towards a plant-based food system and describe the protein shift that is currently taking place among consumers, producers, retail and investors.

Tobias Leenaert is the author of How to Create a Vegan World: a Pragmatic Approach and blogs at The Vegan Strategist. He is a longtime speaker and strategist, giving talks and trainings all over the world. He is also co-founder of ProVeg International, a food awareness organisation working with international decision-making bodies, governments, food producers, investors, the media, and the general public to transform the global food system. And he is the founder of the Belgian vegan organization EVA, the only one in the world to receive structural government funding. Tobias is keen on thinking out of the box, building bridges between different groups, and practicing what he calls “slow opinion”.
